Declaring the unlawful status and proscribing the Qur’an guides us about haram or forbidden in Chapter 16:115
“He has only forbidden you what ‘dies’ of itself and ‘ blood ‘and ‘flesh of swine’ and that over which any other than that of Allah has been invoked , but whosoever is driven to (dire) necessity , not desiring nor exceeding the limit , then surely Allah is most Forgiving and Merciful”
Furthermore Allah says in the Qur’an in Chapter 5:3 (first part)
“forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood and flesh of swine and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked ; and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being gored with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter ….”
These revelations are important injunctions as subsequently to complete the 5:3 Allah says: ” this day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour on you and chosen Islam as a religion, but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining wilfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving and Merciful ”
Haram, therefore , would be defined as what is NOT permissible and Allah decrees us to keep away from. Next example of such substance is Alcohol. It is said that there are minuses and pluses in it’s properties but a Muslim is advised to keep away and to abstain from consuming it and as well as dealing in it’s trade.
