Established in 1970 by Roberto Raggio, IMS of Smithfield was based in the heart of London’s famous Smithfield Market overlooking St Bartholomew’s Square. Roberto’s vision was to create a company which would be the market leader in the meat industry.
A business which would be built on quality, trust, reliability and service. This would create the best possible customer experience and establish IMS of Smithfield as the premier meat company we are today.
Many of IMS of Smithfield’s early clients were local hotels and restaurants within the central London area but as Roberto’s vision grew so did the circle of clients around him. The client list soon included some of the biggest names in the catering industry. One thing Roberto understood was that maintaining the quality of his products and high service levels was particularly important to his blueprint to become the market leader.
As IMS of Smithfield grew, Roberto recognised the need for a managed, sensible expansion program to maintain the levels of service his clients had come to expect from his business.
In 1988, as part of the program, IMS of Smithfield moved from Smithfield Market to its present location in Kings Cross, London. Its new home was a state of the art 7,500 square feet cutting facility which enabled Roberto to continue to expand and deliver the required product and service levels.
By 2000, the facility was at full capacity due to the excellent customer retention rates and additional new client acquisition so the premises were expanded and re-modernised to house a 15,200 square feet high grade facility.
Roberto is still involved with IMS of Smithfield today and, in-line with it being a family run business, his brother Mario and son Christian now plays a significant role in its development.
